Bail has been the answer to make sure someone arrested and charged with a crime can get out of jail and will still show up for trial. But a bill co-authored by Republican Senator Rand Paul and Democrat Senator Kamala Harris seeks to encourage states to eliminate the money secured bail system.

Kennedy, was shot point-blank by Jack Ruby on November 24, 1963, at the Dallas Police headquarters as he was being transferred to the Dallas County Jail. This was the first murder broadcast live on American television. In the emotional aftermath of the Kennedy assassination, Ruby’s case was rushed to trial. Held just months later, Ruby’s trial was hailed by news media as “the trial of the century.”

The wife of death-row inmate Eric Williams learns her fate Tuesday as an admitted accomplice in the 2013 Kaufman County prosecutor murders.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the couple’s arrest, Eric Williams’ sister said Monday her sister in-law deserves a death sentence, too.
